Wokheii, currently I'm handling a small project that makes
me go around asking department heads to review their subordinate for their
career path. I have to chase one after one department head while they are free,
and in between, I can have the chance to have small chitchat with them about
themselves, about the department, or even about the organization entirely.
Today I met a department head to discuss about his people.
In the middle of discussion, he told me a bit of his advice that he usually
gave to his subordinate which became quite long discussion in the end. I like
it so so so much! I found it really interesting and motivating, especially for
me and even for those in deprivation of career.
I was leaning forward without I realized it! My body
unconsciously reacted to those words! I asked him whether I could post his
advice in my blog and he agreed. Well, he added that those lines weren’t his as
he got that piece of advice from his ‘guru’ too, and he thought that it’s
absolutely true and he experiences it himself all this long. So here it is (the
wording may contain slight difference from his):
The first
five years after you graduate, it’s your time to learn. Learn everything, take
everything, forget about money.
The second
five years, it’s your time to consolidate what you’ve got in the first five
years.
The third
five years and forward, money will come to you.
. . .
In the
first five years, you will surely be dependent on others.
In the
second five years, you will start being independent because of your experience.
You can start doing your job independently, being trustworthy.
In the
third five years, you will be dependable; people will come to you, put faith in
you and respect you. At that time, you just need to enrich yourself and start
focusing on the so-called political matter; position and money.
If you
really succeed your first and second five years, you’ll get the position, money
and the respect for sure, or else it will only be a meaningless position.

I hope these lines will inspire another person and the other
one and the others too. Hopefully, lost bodies will gain back their souls, spirit
will replace fatigue, and desperation
will turn to encouragement. Till here. Siya, Bhai!
